Industrial Development Agency JSC supports cooperation to develop SMR technology in Poland

Date of posting: 2024-03-15

On 11 March 2024, at the headquarters of Industrial Development Agency JSC in Warsaw, a cooperation agreement was signed between Świętokrzyska Grupa Przemysłowa INDUSTRIA S.A. and the British investment fund Chiltern Vital Group. This event is related to the ongoing international conference on the future of nuclear energy, 'Industria Nuclear Days 2024', organised by ŚGP INDUSTRIA.

The main provisions of the agreement include cooperation in the following areas: training and skills development of Polish students and professionals, exchange of know-how to accelerate the licensing process of components dedicated to the nuclear industry, joint development of related technologies to create large low-carbon regional technology parks, and the creation of private financing models to ensure the viability of SMR projects.

The development of the SMR programme is one of the important elements in shaping the Polish energy mix of the future. I am pleased that the IDA Group company Industria is one of the leaders in this process," said Cezariusz Lesisz, CEO of the Industrial Development Agency JSC.

Chiltern Vital Group is a very important partner for us because of the group's experience in industrial cluster projects, which will support the development of the Central Hydrogen Valley and the implementation of Rolls-Royce SMR units within the valley, added Szczepan Ruman, CEO of INDUSTRIA S.A.

CVG is excited about the prospects of signing a strategically important cooperation agreement with Industria in Poland. SMR technology can only be implemented at the scale required through long-term public-private and international partnerships. We are delighted to have leading partners from the public and private sectors in our major UK projects such as the Western Gateway and Rolls Royce SMR in the planned Berkeley/Oldbury 'Severn Edge' investment zone project, and to be a significant partner in the Yorkshire Energy Park Freeport. Today we have significantly expanded our international SMR-related technology collaboration through an agreement with Industria. - highlighted Chris Turner, CEO of Chiltern Vital Group

INDUSTRIA is working with Rolls-Royce SMR under a 'Memorandum of Intent' signed back in 2022. Today, the company acquires new partners by signing a letter of intent to collaborate with the British investment fund Chiltern Vital Group (CVG) for the development of SMR technology in Poland. The signing of the agreement marks another step in the cooperation between Polish-British public-private partnerships of strategic importance.

In 2023, after more than two years of cooperation with Rolls-Royce SMR, INDUSTRIA selected Rolls-Royce Small Modular Reactor (SMR) technology to realise the Central Valley Hydrogen
of a low-carbon Polish economy. This partnership will be an integral part of developing low-carbon energy sources, decarbonising energy-intensive industries and producing clean energy for future generations.

CVG is working with Rolls-Royce SMR to develop regional energy projects
with zero emissions, has begun the process of acquiring the Gloucestershire Science and Technology Park in Berkeley, which is adjacent to the former Magnox nuclear reactor site, to create an international science, training, R&D and technology park of global significance.

To achieve the goals of the Central Hydrogen Valley, we have chosen the SMR technology developed by Rolls-Royce. The small modular reactors will produce stable, affordable, low-carbon energy to power the region's industries and households for at least 60 years. However, to achieve this goal, we need to provide significant financial resources. That is why we are pleased that an experienced British institution - CVG - is starting to work with us to build RR SMR units and related technologies providing future employment opportunities in Poland, the UK and internationally," said Szczepan Ruman, CEO of INDUSTRIA S.A.

The Industria Nuclear Days 2024 conference is a platform to discuss the future of nuclear energy in the context of today's challenges and market opportunities, as well as to promote sustainable development and safety in energy production in Poland. All interested media are invited to participate in the second day of the conference, which takes place in Korzecko near Kielce. More information is available at:
