Industrial Development Agency JSC co-develops Central Hydrogen Valley

Date of posting: 2023-07-17

On 17 July 2023, Industrial Development Agency JSC, together with 26 other entities, signed a letter of intent for the creation of the Central Valleys Hydrogen Plant named after the Laszczyński Brothers. The valley will operate in the area of three voivodeships: Łódzkie, Mazowieckie and Świętokrzyskie. The signing of the letter of intent was accompanied by Minister Anna Moskwa and Deputy Minister Ireneusz Zyska.

The Central Hydrogen Valley will be created on the basis of the hydrogen cluster of the Świętokrzyska Grupa Przemysłowa Industria, which belongs to Industrial Development Agency JSC. This is another initiative aimed at producing zero-emission energy, based on so-called green hydrogen.

- Industrial Development Agency JSC is one of the pioneers of the hydrogen market in Poland. We could not miss the creation of the Central Hydrogen Valley either," emphasises Mariusz Rusiecki, Vice-President of the Management Board of Industrial Development Agency JSC.

The Central Hydrogen Valley is a comprehensive project which will cover the entire path of hydrogen production and utilisation. Beginning with the construction of electrolysers that will convert electricity into hydrogen, through hydrogen storage, and ending with its use to produce electricity.

- The initiation of the Central Hydrogen Valley is an important step in the energy transition and the development of our hydrogen economy. It is a solution which, thanks to the involvement of Polish entrepreneurs and experts, will strengthen both our energy security and the competitive edge of our national economy, said Climate and Environment Minister Anna Moskwa.

Assumptions of the Łaszczyński Brothers Central Hydrogen Valley include the production of green energy from 2 gigawatts of wind and solar farms and 250 megawatts of hydrogen electrolysers.

The first hydrogen in the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship could be produced in 2024. At that time, a 3 MW photovoltaic farm will be put into operation at the Jaźwica mine, as well as a 1 MW electrolyser to produce hydrogen. The zero-emission fuel will help power the vehicle used at the mine.

- In recent years, we have taken a number of initiatives related to the development of a hydrogen economy in Poland. First and foremost is the development and adoption by the Council of Ministers in November 2021 of a Polish hydrogen strategy until 2023 with an outlook until 2040, which refers to PEP2040. Our activities also include the initiation of a sectoral agreement, the first in the European Union. More than 250 entities from Poland and abroad are very active in this agreement, added Deputy Minister Ireneusz Zyska.

For Agencja Rozwoju Przemysłu S.A., this is another project within the framework of the innovative return, the framework of which is defined by the company's new strategy.

- Until recently, Industrial Development Agency JSC, was mainly involved in restructuring, but now we are focusing more and more on investments of key importance for Poland's development in the coming decades. We support processes that transform the national economy towards energy sovereignty and innovation. We are investing in offshore wind energy, electromobility and the space industry, among others. Hydrogen will be the fuel of the future, but there is already a battle on global markets for positioning to take off in this promising industry. We want Poland not to have to chase the lead, but to set the pace for the hydrogen market globally on its own. That is why I am glad that the Central Hydrogen Valley is starting now and with such a strong line-up, stressed Mariusz Rusiecki.
