The Industrial Development Agency JSC, together with its strategic partner GRI Renewable Industries S.L., is launching a new investment to support the development of offshore wind energy (OWE). On 19 January 2023, a joint venture agreement was concluded between IDA JSC, Baltic Towers sp. z o.o. and the Spanish company GRI Renewable Industries, S.L. concerning the implementation of a joint venture for the construction of a new tower factory for offshore wind energy (OWE).

The planned investment by the ARP Capital Group (I CG) will allow the ARP Group to meet the growing demand for wind towers, as well as to significantly increase the participation of Polish companies in the supply chain for the construction of offshore wind farms (OWF) in the Baltic Sea. The value of the estimated investment is more than EUR 150 million and the planned start of production is 2025.

- The new investment will include the construction of an offshore tower production hall for the largest planned wind turbines with a capacity of more than 14 MW, and the state-of-the-art production facility, designed and built according to the Industry 4.0 standard, will have a production capacity capable of manufacturing more than 120 towers per year.

The new plant in Gdansk will meet the highest technical and quality standards set by key customers in the OWF market.

Offshore wind energy is currently one of the fastest growing energy sectors. Both the dynamic economic situation driven by the European energy policy, the implemented energy transformation processes in Poland, as well as the adopted Act on the Promotion of Electricity Generation in Offshore Wind Farms, aim to significantly increase the share of renewable energy in energy generation. Such conditions justify investment decisions and point to new markets and provide opportunities for steel structure manufacturers to gain additional competence.

The Industrial Development Agency JSC, as one of the signatories of the Sectoral Agreement for the Development of Offshore Wind Energy in Poland, is undertaking a number of activities related to the development of OWE in Poland, one of which is the planned cooperation with GRI Renewable Industries, S.L.

The activities related to wind energy (offshore and onshore) are placed in one of the four strategic areas - energy and digital transformation towards Industry 4.0. The investment fits directly into the strategic initiative entitled. "Offshore wind energy", which includes the launch of the production of towers for offshore wind energy and the supervision of the production, supply, operation and maintenance of a low-carbon service and/or installation fleet for OWE in the IDA CG.

Competence in the renewable energy market and the offshore sector is held, among others, by the Baltic Industrial Group, which operates within the IDA CG and has diversified business activities concentrated in three segments: wind towers, onshore/offshore steel structures, vessels. GPB and its subsidiaries have manufactured more than 4,000 sections of onshore wind towers over the last 10 years, as well as a number of trafostations and components dedicated to OWE.

GRI Renewable Industries, S.L. has been developing wind tower and flange manufacturing activities in the wind energy sector since 2008. It currently has 18 production facilities in Spain, the USA, Brazil, Argentina, China, Turkey, India and South Africa supplying high quality wind towers and flanges to the wind energy industry worldwide.

- We are very proud to be part of this major wind energy project for sustainability and carbon neutrality. This joint venture will create a global leader in the offshore market, and this market is becoming more and more demanding every year, concludes Jon Riberas, executive president of GRI
