Offshore wind tower factory in Gdansk, Baltic Towers, with support from the Polish Investment Zone
The board of the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone has issued a formal decision to provide support to the Baltic Towers company. The Polish Investment Zone will support the construction of a production and storage hall for the production of offshore wind towers. The value of the new investment is estimated at around EUR 200 million.
Baltic Towers, a company owned by the Industrial Development Agency S.A., in cooperation with the Spanish company GRI Renewable Industries, S.L., will build a state-of-the-art factory for the production of offshore wind towers for wind turbines above 15 MW. The factory will be capable of manufacturing up to 150 towers per year. This is an investment of key importance for developing the potential of the Polish offshore industry. Thanks to the newly built factory, more than 500 new, highly qualified jobs will be created. It is an investment that will become part of the economic landscape of the Tricity for years to come, restoring industrial functions in the area of the southern tip of Ostrów island.
With the decision by the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone to support the investment, the Baltic Towers project is gaining momentum.
- The construction of offshore wind farms is a complex process for which we need plants built in accordance with the principles of the fourth industrial revolution, and this is precisely the ambitious investment being made by Baltic Towers. The new factory will mean new high-quality jobs. We are happy to be part of this project, which is extremely important not only for the development of the region, but also for the energy security of the whole country - says Przemysław Sztandera, President of the Board of the Pomeranian Special Economic Zone.
The Pomeranian Special Economic Zone, together with all the companies managing the Polish Investment Zone, celebrates this year the 5th anniversary of the new investment support system. In less than five years (from September 2018 to the end of August 2023), a total of 2,255 support decisions were issued across the country. The value of investment projects exceeded the amount of - PLN 109.5 billion and investors declared the creation of 45,559 new jobs.
The Pomeranian Special Economic Zone is also implementing its own projects aimed at transitioning the Polish economy to a low-carbon model, while maintaining energy security. On 9th October, a symbolic shovel drive was held for the start of construction of a photovoltaic farm in Barcin. Similar investments are planned in Grudziądz and Człuchów. Last year, in turn, an investment in a green roof with photovoltaic panels was completed at the Gdańsk Science and Technology Park, thanks to which the facility is largely powered by solar energy.
